VINEYARD
THE VINEYARD: The fruit is sourced exclusively from our To Kalon Vineyard, which is located on prime benchland in the Oakville District appellation. The well-drained soils and optimal sun exposure here enable the development of rich, complex flavors, impeccable phenolic maturity, and varietal character. The fruit is hand-harvested over multiple picks, which are fermented and aged individually before the final blend is determined. The resulting wine is approachable upon release, but has the structure and balance to age 20 years or more.
THE VINTAGE: 2022 was a warm vintage with an early budbreak. The dry growing season featured moderately warm temperatures until a few days of high heat just after Labor Day, and remained mild afterwards. The fruit was hand-harvested between September 17 and 27. The final blend was aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak.
TASTING NOTES
Aromas: Fruity and floral, with wild berry, spiced plum, lavender and blue flower character, complemented by hints of vanilla, graphite, and earth
Flavors: Berry fruit carries through from start to finish, with notes of dried plum, spice, black pepper, mocha, graphite, and vanilla
Body: Juicy and fresh, with fine-grained tannins that are round and silky, and a defined structure and weight to the finish that is typical of To Kalon
