VINEYARD
THE VINEYARD: The fruit for this wine comes from our To Kalon Vineyard, which is located on prime benchland in the Oakville appellation. The well-drained soils and optimal sun exposure here enable the development of rich, complex flavors, impeccable phenolic maturity, and varietal character. The wine is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, chosen from five of our favorite lots from this site; the balance is equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
VINTAGE: The 2022 growing season was mild, dry, and very pleasant through August. Temperatures surged for a few days just after Labor Day. Our grape-growing and winemaking teams worked nonstop to keep the vines healthy and happy until temperatures cooled. The fruit was harvested by hand between September 10 and September 23. The wine spent 32 days on the skins to emphasize the natural color and flavors, then aged 21 months in French oak barrels (98% new).
TASTING NOTES
Aromas: Black cherry, graham cracker, black olive, and cedar complemented by notes of dried sage and sweet tarragon
Flavors: A concentrated core of dark and red berry fruit, wrapped in black spice, graphite, and savory herb notes
Body: Rich and concentrated with an unmistakable presence for such a young wine. Tannins are longer grain and more pronounced, and the lengthy finish just keeps going
