Hills to the west and east of the Stags Leap District allow the passage of special breezes from the bay into the interior of the region, making this small but renowned AVA slightly cooler at night than other area in the valley. The subtle climate variation and the appellation’s famously unique soils of old river sediments and heavy loamy clay, help provide for the low vigor vines and robust yet elegantly balanced wines of this District’s famed three square miles.

Pts. Wine Advocate "Sourced from the Wappo Hill Vineyard and Schweizer Vineyard, Robert Mondavi's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Estates Stags Leap District features gentle cedar and sage nuances layered atop ripe cherries and cassis. It's medium to full-bodied, smooth, supple and harmonious from start to lingering finish. Nicely done." - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, March 31, 2022
Pts. Wine Spectator "Warmed cassis and plum sauce glide through in this friendly, plush offering, with melted red licorice and sweet toast on the finish. A late violet hint adds nice lift. Drink now through 2030. 680 cases made." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, November 15, 2022
