THE VINEYARD: To Kalon is situated on prime benchland in west Oakville. The well-drained soils and ideal sun exposure yield rich, complex flavors and flawless ripeness in the finished wines. The three blocks were specifically selected to showcase the beautiful red fruit character of old-vine To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon.
THE VINTAGE: Early spring rains in 2018 filled reservoirs and gave the vines ample water for the growing season. While bud break and flowering were a bit later, the season began under ideal weather conditions, creating excellent fruit set and expectations of a generous crop. Sunshine throughout the summer was tempered by the region’s cool breezes and fog, which ensured slow, even ripening for the perfect balance between retained freshness and maximum flavor development. The fruit was hand-harvested, then spent 28 days on the skins to bring out all the vibrant fruit character before aging in 100% French oak barrels.
