THE VINEYARD: The grapes for this wine come from a single block of the vineyard that surrounds the Mondavis’ former home, in the heart of Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District.
THE VINTAGE: The 2020 vintage, despite its challenge, has given us many lovely wines. After a warmer-than-usual winter with very little rain, some precipitation – and a bit of cold weather – arrived in spring. Early summer settled into a pattern of cool mornings and very warm afternoons, and while there were a few heat spikes, these diurnal shifts typically are ideal for making great wine. The fruit was hand-harvested and the fresh juice underwent a cold, slow, gentle fermentation that was started with yeasts selected for their ability to highlight the fruit and floral characteristics inherent to this varietal. The wine was chilled to stop fermentation once it achieved the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, then bottled quickly to perfectly preserve its lush aromatics.
