The rows of Pinot Noir grapes in our Carneros vineyard stretch out across the edge of the valley.

A notoriously challenging variety, Pinot Noir prefers the foggy, wind-swept slopes of the Carneros region, in southern Napa Valley. Clone 115 is one of the most sought-after Dijon clones of Pinot Noir, and excels in its home on Stanly Ranch in Carneros. A property farmed to the highest standards, Stanly Ranch is also of great historical importance. Trial plantings took place here in the 1950s which resulted in the industry’s preferred Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones, such as Pinot Noir Clone 115. These clones are still used today by those seeking to make wines of the highest quality.

The clusters were harvested in the cool of the morning to retain fruity, delicate flavors. A portion of the grapes were destemmed before being transferred to fermenters as whole berries to heighten fruitiness. The remaining portion was fermented as whole clusters (with stems) to add a bit of spice, structure and subtle flesh to the texture. The wine was gently pumped over the skins, ensuring a soft, silky mouthfeel. Several days of cold soak prior to fermentation and extended maceration afterwards added up to a total of 21 days of wine to skin contact to achieve rich, fully developed flavors. The new wine went into French oak, 60% new, for malolactic fermentation, and matured for nine (9) months. The wine was bottled in August 2018.
