2016 BDX Red Wine Oakville

Black plums meet more savory characters - black pepper, notes of cedar and peat, and a touch of molasses. The wine has a big body, a red plum streak of fruit and acid, and then just keeps going, finishing with a chocolatey texture and a zip of bright energy.

Our 2016 BDX blend is comprised of 100% To Kalon fruit. When Robert Mondavi chose To Kalon Vineyard in west Oakville as the home for his new winery in 1966, he remarked that it was “a vineyard with a distinguished history and a magical nature. Ideal soils, sunlight, and rain – to my eye, the vineyard was a treasure.” Well-drained, low fertility soils, aided by optimal sun exposure, consistently yield impeccable fruit maturity and amazing quality. We blended wines made from eight distinct blocks on To Kalon to achieve the juicy but richly textured and complex blend that we sought for BDX.

A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Red Blend BDX struts out of the glass with bold scents of blueberry pie, plum preserves and crème de cassis plus nuances of potpourri, unsmoked cigars, tapenade and cardamom. Full-bodied, the palate delivers a rock-solid structure of grainy tannins and lively acidity, boosting the densely laden black fruits, finishing savory.
